Overall purpose of the role:

The role provides strategic HR support and advice to business leaders. This is a senior HR role to support clients across most of world. The role requires working knowledge of HR and Employment regulations for around 56 countries across three regions (EMEA, AP and CLA). The incumbent should have advanced HR knowledge making a significant contribution to HR values, strategies and goals.

The AT&T Most of World HR Business Partner will function as business partner, change agent and trusted advisor in understanding business goals, key challenges and people strategies, and will develop solutions to meet business needs, resulting in/contributing to revenue growth, productivity gains, employee engagement and cost reduction.

The role reports to the Director of HR Business Partners based in the UK.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Job duties and responsibilities:

■ Works in partnership with senior management teams of a selected client base, to provide strategic HR guidance and coaching;

■ Provides consultative services to business leaders including proactive solutions focused on the client’s business. Must be seen by the client as a trusted advisor and understand the business, contributing at the client’s table not just on HR solutions but also on business solutions. Will be actively involved in the functional decision making process and responsible for recommending and analysing proposed HR solutions. Decisions made will directly enable organisations to operate legally and effectively in a multi country/regional environment. Decisions may impact the operational effectiveness and ultimately affect business success.

■ Ensures HR best practices are integrated into short, medium and long-term planning as a valued partner immersed in the business goals. Advise and inform BU of policy or future HR programmes or timelines. Regularly exchanges facts, issues and ideas with the client, using influence, negotiation or persuasion to achieve good outcome for HR and the client group;

■ Responsible for ensuring the implementation of HR initiatives across the client group using metrics that shows the impact to the “bottom line”, including organisation design, workforce planning, performance management and compensation;

■ Regular communication with Assistant Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents and Officers for specified client groups. Interfaces with AT&T leadership representing HR recommendations and solutions. Will frequently represent HR on cross-functional teams. Communicates with professional external bodies where additional technical insight is helpful;

■ Participation and regular reporting on strategic HR Projects as required, for example, changes to workforce strategy which may impact a number of countries - this could be moving a workforce centre either within one region or across multiple regions. The incumbent will shape the recommendations to minimise or mitigate the impact of labour relations or local labour laws, and may use influence or negotiation/persuasion to achieve a good outcome for HR and the Business;

■ Regular communications and close working relationships with local HR teams across the globe, International Staffing and Domestic HR Business Partners.

Key Competencies and Skills:

Specific work content would include the following activity:

■ Workforce Planning and Force Management by facilitating unit specific workforce initiatives across the globe (excluding the USA) ensuring compliance with individual country legislation. Anticipates, identifies and pre-empts problems. Recommends solutions which require creativity, critical thinking considering a broad range of impacts including those that are downstream. Implements HR Strategy;

■ Partnering with clients and HR functions on the delivery of strategic M&A and divestiture activity. Supports on-boarding of employees, educates on AT&T policy, procedures and culture. Recommends and develops solutions to resolve business issues as required, ensuring they conform with HR policy and AT&T standards;

■ Partnering with the Staffing function to deliver timely, cost effective and quality acquisition of talent to meet business need. Ensuring external talent is paid competitively, to attract and retain key talent;

■ Performance Management - disciplined implementation of process and tools. Working with business leaders to educate and ensure consistent application of Performance Management ratings, and adherence to the policy. Needs to demonstrate strong influencing skills across management hierarchies during calibration sessions;

■ Talent management, development and succession planning. Clear knowledge of key talent across client group. Supports the implementation of HR strategy, influencing decision making as appropriate;

■ International Compensation and Policy initiatives - partner with global COEs on implementation of policies and initiatives. Support and educate the business, demonstrating strong influencing skills during compensation calibration sessions;

■ Employee Engagement - action planning, focus on key employee productivity and engagement factors in the global environment. Partner with the client group to determine areas of focus, developing solutions to meet business needs. Support the adherence to legal/compliance obligations e.g. Equal Opportunities compliance with targeted selection local country requirements for Brazil, Italy, Belgium, etc. as required. Recommends and develops solutions to resolve business issues ensuring they conform with legal obligations, HR policy and AT&T standards.

Education and Qualifications:

Person specification:

■ Must be a graduate with a local HR qualification, for example, the IPD UK qualification or certification in Global HR concepts such as GP HR (Global Professional in Human Resources) or SHRM SCP (Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional);

■ Extensive HR experience from within an international environment, with substantial global business partner experience;

■ Global business experience with advanced HR knowledge, understanding HR values, strategies and goals across the telecoms sector;

■ Working knowledge of global HR and Employment regulations across three regions (EMEA, AP and CLA);

■ Project management skill - ability to lead global projects as required;

■ Good understanding of HR geographical complexities, enabling the integration of country specific requirements in addressing organisational change;

■ Fluent in written and spoken English;

■ Well developed communication skills;

■ Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills;

■ Strong influencing skills across management hierarchies;

■ Resilient, strong influencing skills and a team player;

■ Able to think of original, strategic ideas that are ‘outside of the box’;

■ Able to travel and work in multi-cultural /multi-time zone environment;

■ Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;

■ Implementation and usage of HR Technology and ERP systems would be an advantage.
